Here are some tips on how to become wedding photographer.
Working in the field of photography as a professional is fun, especially, when it is for weddings, parties and functions. Lots of people have good knowledge about photography, but they do not take it as a profession. Eventually, their passion fades out because there is no reward and secondly, the cost of equipment is so high that one has to think twice for these investments. However, we can work as a wedding and function photographer, and recover the cost of our investments. Here are some tips on how to become wedding photographer.
Basic rules of becoming wedding photographer are same as turning professional photographer. Declare yourself as a photographer among your friends and relatives, who can recommend you as a wedding photographer in their circle. Initially, you may cover small parties and functions. Once you get the required confidence, you can go for weddings.
The client may ask you to show your work. Now this is a tricky part. As a fresher, one cannot have a sample work to display. In such case, there are two ways to break the ice. Either we can join an established wedding photographer as an assistant, and get good experience. Second option is to get first hand experience by covering one of a function or a party of our close friend or relative for free of cost. Then we can have our own work to show to our client as a sample.
Photographs clicked in a party require little color correction and retouching. There are many software, available for these corrections. Always shoot with camera picture setting on finest mode and largest file size. Keep extra batteries and memory cards.
Normally, a camera is very sturdy and reliable machine, and rarely breaks down, however, when working as a professional, we should have a backup. Same is applicable for a flash light. It is preferable to have backups of same brand and model, so that accessories, lenses, batteries and memory cards can be used with both cameras and flash lights.
Always get information about important invitees and guests, so that a shot is not missed. Educate your self for custom and procedure of a wedding ceremony, so that you are ready for the next event. If you cannot, then request the client at the time of finalizing the assignment, that you will need somebody, who can give you directions. Your honesty at this level will be a plus point, and the client will not reject your request.
As a photographer, you should be the first person to enter the venue so that arrival of host also can be covered. And, you will be the last person, who will leave the venue, for, no shot is missed, including the departure of married couple.
Tips on how to become wedding photographer - (commercial part): Income generated from wedding and function photography should be divided in three equal parts. Only one part is to be considered as a genuine income. One part is to be saved and invested for 'rainy days'. This is for, always you may not have work. The remaining one third part has to be kept reserved for photographic equipment, which can be for buying new equipment or used for repairing and maintenance of existing one.
