Model photography
Model: Priya Yadav
Model photography, done to create a portfolio for a model, has a good demand. A portfolio for upcoming model is required to show how he or she looks in a photograph.
Obviously, we have to shoot a model who has a very little or no experience in front of a camera. Every person has got some potential to give a good photogenic pose, but we have to give him or her, some instructions.
A portfolio may have a collection of fifteen to twenty photographs. In a complete portfolio, we have to show some close ups, some mid shots and some full length shots, so that an art director or prospective client can visualize the person. These shots are required to be taken in a studio as well as outdoors, so that one can study how a person looks in different lighting conditions. Some shots are to be converted in two tone and some in black and white.
Make up artist has a very important role to play in model photography. He can enhance some features and hide some defects of a face. Up to some extent, he can re-size the nose and rectify the jaw line. As the make up is done for a particular lighting, change it as per need. Hair style also plays very important role to enhance the look of a model.
In order to get some twenty good shots, we may have to shoot more than two hundred pictures. This much shots will give some practice to the model, how to or how not to pose in front of a camera. We must be sure of the expression, body language, posture and gesture.
We can use any props and dress, which is suitable to the model. We must create different looks so that one can select the model for appropriate assignment.
Model photography can be a kind of glamour photography or erotic photography. Photographs can be shot with high key or low key lighting. As there is no pressure of dead line or there is no restriction in creativity, we can experiment with anything, which can work.
There is a new trend of barter system between a photographer and a model in model photography. A model poses for photographer to built photographer's portfolio and in the return, the model gets some prints for his or her portfolio. This works well when both, the photographer and the model are new. However, when you have proved yourself as an established photographer, then there is no need to give any free service, unless the model is a celebrity.
A tip to art directors and prospective clients : Never judge a model from his or her portfolio only. Remember, a portfolio is done at ease of time and without any pressure. One may be comfortable to work in these conditions but may not be able to take the pressure of a commercial shoot.
A suggestion to the model: If you want to enter this glamorous profession, be professional in your behavior and commitments. Remember, when you are doing a commercial shoot, lots of money and time of other professional persons are involved.
To get priority in audition, deliver the best you can. This does not mean you have to wear you best clothes. As a model, you are selling your looks and expressions, for which you have to maintain your skin, hair and the structure of your body. Over weight and under weight models are rarely selected, unless there is such type of demand. Read more about the maintenance of fat in this article.
