Light colors in photography
Light colors of any color or shade makes it look softer. When white is added to any color, it becomes light and pale. They are very friendly colors and work well to produce a bright, colorful and high key photograph.
When warm colors are made lighter, they loose their character and boldness. They work well in background, when we want to create a contrast for the main subject. On the other end, cool colors look cooler when they are made lighter. They work well in almost all applications.
These colors play second fiddle for their low profile. In food photography, they represent cold items, sweets and ice creams. They work well as a negative space, as they actually drive our eye towards any vivid color present in a photograph.
These lighter colors appear as a feminine colors, but they are actually neutral. Most of formal dress in men's wear is light in color. Even engineering products also use them. They have tendency to keep the story short and simple.
These colors work extremely well in fashion and glamour photography, both as a background and in dress or accessories, especially if the model is female or a child. However, with male model, we have to reconsider these colors, if we want to give a robust feel in a photograph. If we want to create a friendly and happy atmosphere, or a high key photograph, then these colors will work.
In photography, these are comparatively safe colors to play with. We need to create tonal contrast to maximize the dimensional punch when working with these colors. Texture is more difficult to record on lighter shades of colors. Nevertheless, they work very well for high key photographs and live bright pictures.
On CMYK color mode, light shades of color does not have black. If we add some percentage of black, then you will loose its virgin feel and they will turn in dull colors. Actually in CMYK color mode, there is no addition of any white color and lightness of color is achieved by reducing the input of cyan, magenta and yellow.
